The latest version of eye-tracking from Tobii has improved the head tracking performance greatly. I am writing this from the perspective of a simulator player where head tracking is, for me, more valuable than eye-tracking.
Before going any further it is worth mentioning that setup and calibration of the system are completely automatic and is a quick process.
Tobii Eye Tracker 4 provided excellent eye-tracking, however, is simulations like Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator eye tracking is problematic as you are constantly scanning, speedometer, road, signs, sat-nav etc. The result is an almost continually moving display that is more distracting than useful.
Tuning the settings could produce a workable solution, but meant disabling and limiting a lot of the potential of the product, and the head tracking was not as responsive as you might want
Eye Tracker 5 has greatly improved head tracking and is fast and responsive. Within the hour I was completely comfortable with using the system almost forgetting it was there.
Setup was further enhanced as SCS have now built-in Tobii support in ETS2 and ATS.
On the downside, this is an expensive piece of kit, but what it brings to the gaming experience cannot be overestimated.
